Historical Perspective of Friends of CCMNH Fundraising and Social Activities
By Fred Budreski
The Friends have long been involved in donating funds to the Museum for various projects and programs. While we provide “extras,” like the OspreyCam for real-time viewing of the osprey family in the nearby marsh, we also donate more mundane things like curtains and carpeting. In 2017 we funded the introduction of two new species of Butterflies to the Butterfly House.
In recent years we have hosted the annual Holiday Party for Friends, Volunteers, and staff. And we sponsor “fun” fields trips for our members, as well as interesting speaker programs and delicious Pot Luck Luncheons!
Our fundraising projects have included auctions, the annual plant sale, a hot dog stand, and raffles for kayaks, Trek Bikes, and a gorgeous Cedar Strip Canoe made by Friends member Dean Smeltzer.
We have now resurrected the Brick Walk Campaign! You can see the results of the first phase of the campaign when you walk through the Bobbie Williams Garden on the pathway paved with hundreds of inscribed bricks.
Now you have the opportunity to personalize your own brick, which you can use as a lasting memorial for a loved one or to just celebrate some noteworthy occasion.
Again, funds generated will be utilized to assist the Museum in projects and programs.
The Friends have been an integral part of CCMNH for a very long time. We have provided many volunteer hours through our ranks, and you’ll always find Friends as docents, Field Guides, Mud Flat Mania leaders, and dozens of other jobs throughout the Museum.
